It is with great sadness that after 20 successful years ADEPT Community Development Agency has closed.
With a severe recession and public services facing radical cuts, resilient and resourceful communities are even more essential; requiring a resurgence in awareness, skills and creativity to find different ways to do things!
Despite ADEPT's demise we have left through this website, examples of our past award-winning work to help stimulate future activity, and resources free for you to down-load, which we hope will provide some support towards independent community activism.
ADEPT was established in 1990 following the Church of England 'Faith in the Cities' report, and was funded initially through the Church Urban Fund, operating within the Coventry and Warwickshire area.
The main purpose of the organisation was to support the development of small local community groups to better enable their independence and self-sufficiency.
With the active support and contributions of local communities, ADEPT developed a community capacity building unit, providing training, support with planning, problem solving and campaigning.
That support evolved into a complementary set of services that included a training course (tailored support) accredited through the Open College Network - 'Working in Community Organisations' - a research and evaluation arm, and a community apprenticeship model. (apprenticeship)
In 2000 we won a British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) commendation for best practice in capacity building and its 'outstanding contribution to community life'.
During its lifetime ADEPT developed dedicated resources to support local groups and their members that you can download for free. At groupsinaction.com you will find a range of materials, including templates, tips, suggestions and links to other sources.
