ADEPT was established in 1990 following the Church of England 'Faith in the Cities' report, and was funded initially through the Church Urban Fund, operating within the Coventry and Warwickshire area.
The main purpose of the organisation was to support the development of small local community groups to better enable their independence and self-sufficiency.
With the active support and contributions of local communities, ADEPT developed a community capacity building unit, providing training, support with planning, problem solving and campaigning.
That support evolved into a complementary set of services that included a training course (tailored support) accredited through the Open College Network - 'Working in Community Organisations' - a research and evaluation arm, and a community apprenticeship model. (apprenticeship)
In 2000 we won a British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) commendation for best practice in capacity building and its 'outstanding contribution to community life'.
